Rumänska åklagare inledde utredningar i båda fallen.

On 29 July 2026, Romanian authorities reported that elements of a drone had fallen on Romanian national territory near the village of Plauru in Tulcea County. Romania’s Ministry of National Defence explicitly connected the incident to repeated attacks by the Russian Federation against infrastructure targets across the border. Plauru lies directly opposite the Danube port area that has repeatedly been subjected to Russian drone strikes, making the Romanian side of the river particularly exposed to spillover from Russian attacks. Romanian Border Police secured the area after the debris was discovered. Ministry of Defence explosive-ordnance specialists then inspected the remains and found an explosive charge associated with the wreckage. The specialists destroyed the charge in a controlled detonation at the location where it was discovered. On the same day, Romanian military teams were also examining debris from the drone intercepted near Sfântu Gheorghe on 25 July and found explosive remnants in both the drone and interceptor-missile fragments. Those materials were likewise neutralised by controlled explosions. Romanian prosecutors opened investigations into both cases. The Plauru incident therefore represented another physical penetration of NATO and EU territory by hazardous drone material generated during Russian military activity immediately across Romania’s border.
