Swedish maritime authorities warn of widespread GPS and AIS interference across the Baltic Sea.
During June and July 2025, Swedish maritime authorities reported a substantial escalation in electronic interference affecting satellite navigation and maritime positioning systems across the Baltic Sea. On 2 July, Navigational Warning 026/25 confirmed observed disruptions to GNSS, AIS, radar and differential GPS systems across multiple Baltic maritime areas, including the gulfs of Finland and Riga. On 10 July, the Swedish Maritime Administration warned that interference had intensified significantly, extending beyond previously affected Baltic waters toward Sweden’s western coast. Martin Mansnerus, the administration’s pilotage area manager in Kalmar, warned that unreliable positioning and vessel identification systems could increase the risk of serious maritime accidents. Mariners were advised to exercise caution and maintain alternative navigation capabilities. Swedish authorities associated the broader interference pattern with electronic warfare activity originating from Russia, particularly Kaliningrad, although the precise transmitters responsible for these disruptions were not identified.
