NATO fighters identify two Russian Su-27 fighters operating from Kaliningrad over the Baltic Sea.
On 14 September 2026, NATO air-defence fighters operating in the Baltic region were scrambled to identify two Russian Su-27 fighter aircraft flying from Kaliningrad Oblast into international airspace before returning to the Russian exclave. According to Lithuania’s Ministry of National Defence, both aircraft operated without active radar transponders, without filed flight plans and without maintaining radio communication with the regional air-traffic-control centre. Baltic Monitor independently records the same 14 September response as part of the Lithuanian Defence Ministry’s weekly accounting of Russian military aviation activity over the Baltic Sea.
