Pro-Russian hacktivists target Spanish electoral body systems and national statistics institute.
On July 23, the day of Spain’s general elections, the group targeted the website of the Junta Electoral Central, the body responsible for overseeing and registering elections and supervising voting procedures at polling stations. The official website of the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), which collects and publishes data on Spain’s population, economy, and society, was also among the reported targets. That day saw the highest number of DDoS attacks, targeting multiple government websites as well as online ticketing services for public transportation across the country.
