Suspected sabotage of water pumping infrastructure at Tingstäde träsk, Gotland, Sweden.

On 2 March 2025, unidentified individuals interfered with a raw-water pumping facility at Tingstäde träsk on the Swedish island of Gotland. At approximately 17:30 local time, Region Gotland’s monitoring system detected a malfunction affecting a water pump. Technicians subsequently discovered that an electrical cabinet had been forcibly opened and a cable disconnected, interrupting the pump’s electricity supply. The disruption was repaired by approximately 21:30, restoring normal operation without affecting the island’s drinking water supply or water quality. Swedish police secured the facility, collected forensic evidence and opened a suspected sabotage investigation. Regional water officials indicated that accessing and disabling the equipment required some technical knowledge. The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) was informed about the incident but did not lead the investigation. Although the incident raised concerns about the security of Gotland’s critical water infrastructure, no Russian involvement or deliberate foreign-state operation was established.
