Five to ten unidentified drones overfly Volkel Air Base, prompting Dutch Air Force personnel to open fire from the ground.

On the evening of 21 November 2025, security personnel at Volkel Air Base observed multiple unidentified drones operating above the military installation between approximately 19:00 and 21:00. Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans later stated that guards initially saw around five drones, with the number increasing to approximately ten. Royal Netherlands Air Force personnel responded from the ground and used weapons in an attempt to bring the drones down. The aircraft subsequently left the area; none was recovered, preventing investigators from determining their type, origin or operator. The Dutch Ministry of Defence declined to disclose the means used to detect or engage the drones for operational-security reasons and notified both the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and civilian police, which began investigating. Drone operations over or around Dutch military airfields are prohibited, so the confirmed presence of the objects over Volkel constitutes an unauthorised military-airfield intrusion.
