Russian drone explodes in Moldovan airspace.
On the evening of 30 September 2026, a drone believed to be a Russian jet-powered Geran-4 entered Moldovan airspace and crashed near Brănești in Orhei District, after colliding with trees in a forest strip near a highway. Moldovan authorities found a crater and evidence of blast and thermal damage, with debris scattered across an area of about 120 metres; recovered components included parts of the wings marked “Geran-4,” electronic modules and a damaged jet engine. Earlier that day, another drone had flown through Moldovan airspace and exploded near Gîrbovăț in Anenii Noi District, reportedly after striking a communications-line support structure at an altitude of around 40 metres. Moldovan authorities also reported a further drone crossing the country’s airspace and temporarily closed airspace in northern and central Moldova.
