Explosives parcel linked to FSB-connected Russian suspect intercepted at a courier facility in Wola Bykowska.
On 24 July 2024, employees at a courier warehouse near Piotrków Trybunalski discovered a damaged parcel whose contents appeared suspicious, prompting police and Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) to intervene. Subsequent examination found explosive material and components, including nitroglycol, Soviet-manufactured military electric detonators, an altered power bank serving as an initiating device, a metal thermos with a shaped-charge liner and powdered aluminium; prosecutors concluded that the components together constituted a shaped-charge bomb capable of causing significant damage. WP Wiadomości PISM records the corresponding July 2024 incident at Wola Bykowska as a thwarted sabotage operation involving the transport of hazardous materials, with Russian intelligence listed as the attribution. Pism Investigators established that Russian citizen Igor R., acting together with two Ukrainian citizens and another Russian citizen, participated in arranging the dispatch and collection of the parcel; he was arrested on 29 July 2024. Polish prosecutors separately established that Igor R. had cooperated with the FSB against Poland between February and August 2022 and that his wife, Irina R., assisted efforts to transfer collected intelligence to the FSB. Gov.pl The incident should therefore be recorded as one thwarted explosives-trafficking/sabotage operation, not as an explosion or completed attack. Importantly, although PISM attributes the Wola Bykowska case to Russian intelligence and the individuals were separately linked to the FSB, publicly available Polish prosecution material does not explicitly establish that the explosives shipment itself was directly ordered by the FSB; that distinction should be preserved in the tracker.
