Persistent GNSS interference affects aircraft over eastern Latvia and the Riga area.

Throughout September 2026, aircraft operating over eastern Latvia continued to experience persistent degradation of satellite-navigation signals. FlySafe’s monitoring of the 57°N, 25°E cell, covering Vidzeme and roughly the Cēsis–Valmiera area northeast of Riga, found that 83.1% of tracked aircraft between 1 and 29 September broadcast degraded navigation integrity; individual daily readings ranged from approximately 61% to 100%. The phenomenon was not a sudden September spike: FlySafe records the same cell at elevated interference levels on every observed day since its monitoring series began on 10 August 2026, indicating a persistent electronic-warfare environment rather than a discrete one-day disruption. FlySafe The interference extended toward Riga itself, where the monitoring cell containing Riga Airport and the city averaged roughly 72.5% degraded navigation indications during September, while areas farther east toward the Russian border showed still higher levels.
