Thirteen protective fighter-jet shelters near completion at Severomorsk-3 naval air base on the Kola Peninsula.
On 8 September 2026, The Independent Barents Observer (republished by ArcticToday) reported that satellite imagery from late August 2026 showed the Northern Fleet in the final phase of completing 13 protective shelters for fighter jets at Severomorsk-3. Construction started in July 2025. Each shelter measures about 20 × 30 metres, with a metal frame and concrete cover, sized for Su-33 and MiG-29K naval fighters. Militarnyi (28 June 2026), citing AviVector, had reported six shelters built in 2025 and seven more begun in 2026, alongside a full reconstruction of the 2,500-metre runway. The Barents Observer noted that only two Su-33s and one Su-25 were visible at the base, suggesting that most aircraft had been redeployed, and that Monchegorsk is the only other base in Murmansk Oblast with such shelters.
