Suspected drone sighting near Kårstø gas processing plant in Norway.
On 12 October 2022, Norwegian police investigated a reported drone sighting near the Kårstø gas processing plant in Tysvær, southwestern Norway. The observation was reported by military personnel stationed at the facility at around 21:30 local time. Police responded to search for the drone and operator, but they did not find either of them, and no arrests were made. Kårstø is one of Norway’s major gas-processing and export facilities, and security had already been strengthened around Norwegian energy infrastructure after the Nord Stream pipeline explosions. The case was therefore treated seriously as a possible drone incident near critical energy infrastructure. However, this specific sighting was not officially attributed to Russia. Later Norwegian reporting also indicated that the observation may have been caused by an SAS passenger aircraft, so this should be marked as “Fitting the pattern”, not “Officially attributed.”
