Explosive drone fragment found drifting near Romania’s Central Platform in the Black Sea.

On 3 September 2026, Romanian Naval Forces explosive-ordnance specialists responded to a drone fragment found floating in the Black Sea near the Central Platform area. The object had been reported by a commercial vessel through Romania’s Regional Maritime Coordination Centre. Romanian specialists examined the wreckage and confirmed that it was part of an aerial unmanned vehicle. More importantly, the fragment still contained an explosive charge, creating a direct hazard to civilian navigation and offshore activity. Romanian naval personnel destroyed the object safely at sea. The Ministry of Defence did not publicly identify the UAV model, country of manufacture or operator. The recovery occurred in the same Black Sea operational environment in which Russian one-way attack drones were repeatedly operating against targets around the Danube and northwestern Black Sea. Similar armed drone remains were recovered off Romania on the following day. Because there is no individual technical attribution, this should not be labelled a confirmed Russian drone. However, the explosive military configuration, timing and concentration of comparable debris make it suitable for Fitting the pattern status
