Explosive-carrying drone discovered damaged in a field near Viișoara, Vaslui County, Romania.

On the morning of 1 September 2026, a civilian discovered a damaged unmanned aircraft in agricultural land outside Viișoara in Vaslui County, roughly 30 kilometres from Romania’s border with Moldova. The head of the local police post was notified at 10:15, after which police and gendarmes secured the area and specialists from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) were called to examine the aircraft. The Court of Appeal Prosecutor’s Office in Iași opened an investigation to establish the type of drone, its origin and the circumstances in which it reached the site. No casualties or material damage were reported.
