Russian Shahed drone crosses Moldovan airspace during an attack on Odesa.

On the morning of 22 August, Moldovan authorities detected a Russian Shahed-type UAV entering Moldovan airspace during a Russian attack against Ukraine’s Odesa region. Moldova’s Defence Ministry reported that the drone was detected at approximately 04:07. Preliminary identification indicated that it was a Shahed-138-type UAV. The drone crossed into Moldova near Kaplany in Ștefan Vodă District. It subsequently travelled through Moldovan airspace before crossing back into Ukraine at approximately 04:24. Moldovan authorities described the overflight as unauthorized. The incident occurred only five days after the Russian Banderol incident near Tălmaza. It demonstrates that Russian strike drones were repeatedly entering Moldovan airspace during attacks against southern Ukraine. The event is therefore a separate airspace incident from the 17 August missile intrusion and should be recorded independently.
