Russian Baltic Fleet conducts nighttime counter-UAS military drill at Khmelevka training ground in Kaliningrad Oblast.

On approximately 5 September 2026, personnel responsible for protecting Baltic Fleet military installations and operating air-observation posts conducted a planned nighttime counter-drone exercise at the Khmelevka training ground in Kaliningrad Oblast. The Baltic Fleet stated that the central scenario involved defending military infrastructure against an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles during darkness. Participants practised detecting, classifying and engaging small low-flying aerial targets representing fixed-wing UAVs. The simulated drones were engaged using twin 25-mm anti-aircraft artillery systems and 12.7-mm Utyos heavy machine guns. Illumination rounds fired from a 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system, balloons/probes and other specialised aerial targets were used to reproduce the UAV threat environment.
