Pro-Russian hackers launch a major DDoS attack against Norway’s national digital-service infrastructure.

On 24 August, a major distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack began against Norway’s Digitalisation Agency (Digdir), which operates infrastructure supporting numerous Norwegian public digital services. The attack continued for several days and was described by a Digdir spokesperson as the largest attack the agency had experienced. The attackers targeted the infrastructure behind Norway’s unified public-service login system. On 26 August, the pro-Russian group Server Killers publicly claimed responsibility for the operation. The group said it had launched a cyber campaign against Norway following Oslo’s renewed security cooperation with Ukraine. The attack generated sufficiently large traffic volumes to put significant pressure on government systems. Despite the scale of the operation, Norwegian authorities managed to keep most services operational. Norwegian authorities had not publicly confirmed the hackers’ claim of Russian state direction at the time of reporting.
