Russian L-410 aircraft violates Norwegian airspace in eastern Finnmark.

On 24 July 2025, a Russian L-410 Turbolet aircraft entered Norwegian sovereign airspace over an uninhabited area along the land border in eastern Finnmark. The Norwegian government confirmed that the aircraft remained inside Norwegian airspace for three minutes. Unlike the April and August violations northeast of Vardø, this incident occurred over land. Authorities publicly disclosed it on 23 September 2025 together with those two separate incursions. The government did not identify the aircraft’s operator, mission, precise route or penetration distance in its statement. Norwegian authorities addressed the violations directly with Russia and requested explanations. They also informed the Norwegian parliament and shared information with NATO allies. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said authorities could not establish whether the incursions were deliberate or caused by navigational errors. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide emphasised Russia’s responsibility to operate with sufficient margins to prevent such violations. This incident therefore constitutes an officially confirmed Russian airspace violation, while claims that it was a deliberate reconnaissance mission or attack remain unconfirmed.
