On 19 January a Russian hacktivist group Akira have targeted online services of Swedish government agencies and shops by conducting a ransomware attack. The data center in Sweden was attacked overnight from 19-20, knocking out online purchases at the country’s biggest cinema chain as well as some department stores and shops. The centralized human resources system used by Sweden’s national government service center was also affected. The Swedish-Finnish online security systems group stated that the problem could take weeks to fix. 120 government agencies and more than 60,000 employees were affected by the attack.
