Unidentified aerial target enters Romanian airspace near Chilia Veche and disappears near Pardina.
On the night of 26 September 2026, Romanian military radar detected an aerial target moving near Chilia Veche along the Danube border with Ukraine. According to the Ministry of National Defence, the object subsequently entered Romanian national airspace. It followed a route almost parallel to the Chilia branch of the Danube for several minutes. Radar contact was eventually lost near Pardina. Romania issued an RO-Alert warning to residents in northern Tulcea County at 23:32. Two Spanish F-18 fighters deployed for NATO enhanced Air Policing and a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled to monitor the incursion. The alert ended at 00:48. The Romanian ministry did not publicly identify the aircraft’s model or nationality, so Russian responsibility cannot be presented as confirmed. However, the entry occurred in the same Chilia/Izmail corridor repeatedly affected by Russian one-way attack drones and within days of other Russian-attributed penetrations of Romanian territory. It therefore qualifies as Fitting the pattern, with the caveat that the official statement described the object only as an aerial target.
