NATO intercepts two additional Russian Su-24M aircraft operating without identification or communication.

On the same day, NATO aircraft conducted another interception involving two Russian Su-24M combat aircraft. The aircraft were travelling from Kaliningrad and subsequently returned toward the Russian exclave. Both aircraft had their transponders switched off and had not submitted flight plans. Their crews were also not maintaining communication with regional air-traffic-control authorities. NATO fighters identified and intercepted the pair in international airspace. The incident was separate from the Il-20 interception earlier that day. It represented the fifth Russian military-flight regulation violation recorded by Lithuania during the 3–9 August period. The repeated activity resulted in multiple NATO air-policing responses within a single week. The concentration of Russian military flights operating without standard identification procedures is significant for monitoring Russian military pressure around the Baltic states.
