On June 11, aircraft participating in the NATO Air Policing Mission identified and escorted a Russian AN-72 transport aircraft flying from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad through international airspace. The aircraft’s transponder was switched on, but the crew had not filed a flight plan. Nevertheless, the crew maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre throughout the flight.
