Letter bombs sent to Embassy of Ukraine, European Union Satellite Centre in Spain.
On 1 December 2022, Spanish security forces discovered a suspected letter bomb at the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Force Base near Madrid, addressed to the European Union Satellite Centre located there. The device was detected by an X-ray scanner and safely neutralised; it was the third explosive package discovered in Spain within two days, following devices sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid and the Instalaza arms manufacturer in Zaragoza, with the embassy device injuring a security officer. The article also reports that additional packages were subsequently found at the Spanish Defence Ministry and U.S. Embassy, bringing the wave to six devices. At the time of this report, the perpetrators and motive had not been established, although the targets were largely institutions connected to Spain’s support for Ukraine.
