Drone over-flight at German military base in Gnoien (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).
On the night of 13 October 2025, four unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) were reportedly seen flying over the Bundeswehr site in Gnoien, where, according to media reports, Ukrainian soldiers have recently been receiving training. The drones were not intercepted: neither the Bundeswehr nor the police were able to identify or stop them. The state interior ministry (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) confirmed that police investigations were opened under a charge of “security-endangering filming” (i.e. unauthorized photographing or video of sensitive military infrastructure) by unknown perpetrators. According to a recent public statement by the vice-president of Germany’s military intelligence, October 2025 saw a record high in drone sightings over military installations nationwide — with a shift from army/air-force bases toward a stronger focus on naval facilities and broader military infrastructure. Security services worry that these UAV flights may be part of a wider pattern of espionage or pre-conflict reconnaissance aimed at mapping base layouts, critical infrastructure, and NATO troop or training sites.
