Aerial target enters Romania near Ceatalchioi and remains inside airspace for about ten minutes.
On the evening of 27 September 2026, Romanian radar detected an aerial target north of Chilia Veche while it was still over Ukrainian territory close to the Romanian border. Two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighters scrambled from the 86th Air Base at Borcea. At 20:35, authorities issued an RO-Alert for Tulcea County. Radar data subsequently showed the target crossing into Romanian sovereign airspace through the Ceatalchioi area. It then travelled along the border inside Romania for approximately ten minutes. Radar contact disappeared near Somova. The Romanian air alert remained in force until 22:05. A specialised Defence Ministry team was ordered to search the area the following morning. Romania did not formally identify the target as Russian or even conclusively publish its aircraft type in the initial statement. Nevertheless, its route from the Ukrainian side of the Danube during the same period of repeated Russian drone incursions makes the incident consistent with the established Russian cross-border UAV pattern and suitable for Fitting the pattern status.
