Op 12 november werden NAVO-jachtvliegtuigen ingezet om een Russische militaire Il-20 te identificeren en te escorteren die van het Russische vasteland naar de exclave vloog. Het vliegtuig had vooraf geen vluchtplan ingediend, maar de bemanning hield de transponder aan boord ingeschakeld en onderhield radiocommunicatie met het regionale luchtverkeersleidingscentrum.
