Satellite imagery showed trees being cleared at the western end of the runway at Girvas air base in Karelia, a runway oriented towards Helsinki, according to an analysis published by The Baltic Sentinel on 15 September 2025. The outlet compared the work with a drone launch strip that Russia built south of Bryansk within a few months in 2024.
