On 4 September 2026, a Romanian Naval Forces EOD team travelled aboard a Coast Guard vessel to inspect another suspicious floating object approximately five nautical miles east of the entrance to the Sulina branch of the Danube. Specialists identified the object as a fragment of an aerial drone. The wreckage contained an explosive payload. Romanian forces destroyed it safely at 18:17 local time. The object had again been reported by commercial shipping through the Regional Maritime Coordination Centre. The Defence Ministry explicitly noted that a nearly identical intervention had been required the previous afternoon near the Central Platform. Sulina lies in the sector of Romania most repeatedly exposed to the effects of Russian UAV operations around the Danube delta. Nevertheless, Romania did not identify the operator or exact drone model in this particular case. The object’s route before entering the sea was therefore unknown, and a Romanian territorial-airspace penetration cannot be independently reconstructed.
