L'8 settembre 2026, The Independent Barents Observer (ripubblicato da ArcticToday) ha riferito che immagini satellitari di fine agosto 2026 mostravano la Flotta del Nord nella fase finale di completamento di 13 rifugi di protezione per caccia a Severomorsk-3. La costruzione è iniziata a luglio 2025. Ogni rifugio misura circa 20 × 30 metri, con struttura metallica e copertura in cemento, dimensionato per i caccia navali Su-33 e MiG-29K. Militarnyi (28 giugno 2026), citando AviVector, aveva riferito di sei rifugi costruiti nel 2025 e sette altri iniziati nel 2026, insieme a una completa ricostruzione della pista di 2.500 metri. The Barents Observer ha notato che solo due Su-33 e un Su-25 erano visibili alla base, suggerendo che la maggior parte degli aerei era stata ridislocata, e che Monchegorsk è l'unica altra base nell'Oblast di Murmansk con tali rifugi.

    On 8 September 2026, The Independent Barents Observer (republished by ArcticToday) reported that satellite imagery from late August 2026 showed the Northern Fleet in the final phase of completing 13 protective shelters for fighter jets at Severomorsk-3. Construction started in July 2025. Each shelter measures about 20 × 30 metres, with a metal frame and concrete cover, sized for Su-33 and MiG-29K naval fighters. Militarnyi (28 June 2026), citing AviVector, had reported six shelters built in 2025 and seven more begun in 2026, alongside a full reconstruction of the 2,500-metre runway. The Barents Observer noted that only two Su-33s and one Su-25 were visible at the base, suggesting that most aircraft had been redeployed, and that Monchegorsk is the only other base in Murmansk Oblast with such shelters.
