The joint SVT–NRK–DR–Delfi investigation published on 10 June 2026 identified Sapernoye, about 80 km (8 Swedish mil) from Finland, as a site where military vehicles were being accumulated. Sapernoye is located on the Karelian Isthmus, north of St Petersburg, in the area facing south-eastern Finland. In reactions to the investigation, the commander of the Finnish Army, Lt. Gen. Pasi Välimäki, stated that Russian infrastructure near Finland could accommodate around 80,000 troops, compared with about 20,000 previously. Thomas Nilsson, head of Sweden’s Military Intelligence and Security Service (MUST), described the development as a threat to be taken seriously.
