On 29 March 2026, a Ukrainian military drone entered Finnish airspace and crashed in the Savisto area north of Kouvola. Finnish police received notification of the crash at 10:04 local time and established a security perimeter while examining the aircraft. Authorities assessed that it was carrying explosives and conducted a controlled detonation to secure the site. Finnish F/A-18 fighters had been deployed that morning to investigate unidentified aircraft entering southeastern Finland. A subsequent investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation and Border Guard established that the drone was Ukrainian and had not been intended to enter Finnish territory. Investigators attributed its deviation to strong GNSS jamming detected in the eastern Gulf of Finland, combined with prevailing southerly winds. No injuries or property damage resulted from the crash.
