An unidentified flying object, believed to be a drone, entered Lithuanian airspace, prompting authorities to issue a red air alert and instruct residents in central and northern Lithuania to seek shelter for approximately one hour. NATO scrambled two Italian Eurofighter jets to investigate, while Kaunas Airport was temporarily closed; however, poor weather prevented the pilots from visually identifying the object. The object subsequently disappeared from radar, apparently after exploding, and Lithuanian military personnel began investigating suspected debris near Juodzionys village in northern Lithuania, some of which reportedly struck a civilian vehicle. The object was believed to have entered Lithuania from Poland, although Polish radar systems did not confirm the crossing. Latvia also briefly issued a yellow air warning in border regions. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry expressed regret over the incident and suggested that Russian electronic warfare may have diverted Ukrainian drones from their intended targets in Russia into Lithuanian airspace, pledging to cooperate with Lithuanian authorities to establish the circumstances.
