Suspected drone sighting near Bundeswehr helicopter hangar temporarily closes Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
On 11 March 2026, air traffic controllers and airport personnel reported a suspicious luminous flying object near a Bundeswehr helicopter hangar at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The object was initially suspected to be an unmanned aerial vehicle, prompting airport authorities to suspend arrivals and departures on both runways at approximately 18:40 as a precaution against potential collisions. Flight operations resumed at 19:18, after approximately half an hour of disruption. German Federal Police searched the surrounding area but found no drone or other identifiable aircraft. Authorities subsequently stated that the initial suspicion had not been substantiated. The incident occurred amid wider European concerns about unidentified drones near airports and military facilities. However, the available evidence did not establish an actual airspace violation, hostile reconnaissance operation or Russian involvement.
