NATO reported several separate air-policing scrambles near allied airspace. One of the new incidents involved French Rafale fighters deployed at Šiauliai, Lithuania, intercepting a Russian Tu-154B aircraft. This should not be recorded as an airspace violation unless another official source confirms territorial entry. It is better classified as an aircraft provocation / identification and escort mission near NATO airspace. The Tu-154B is not a fighter aircraft, but Russian military and state aircraft of this type can still create air-policing tasks when they fly without full transparency near NATO-controlled areas. The incident is useful for showing the tempo of Russian aviation activity around the Baltic region in June 2026. It also adds Lithuania and the NATO Baltic Air Policing mission to the map. The dynamic is repeated pressure by forcing NATO scrambles and keeping the Baltic airspace environment tense.
