On 4 September 2026, investigators discovered four homemade explosive devices near high-voltage power lines east of the Graustein electrical substation in eastern Saxony. The devices were reportedly intended to damage electrical infrastructure by generating short circuits. Specialist officers secured and defused them as part of a larger operation investigating suspected sabotage near coal-related electricity infrastructure. Further inspections identified nine additional devices south of the same substation during searches completed on 6 September, bringing the total number of devices recovered across the two Saxon locations to 21. Authorities indicated that the devices could have threatened regional electricity supplies if successfully activated. However, they reported no significant infrastructure damage or sustained electricity outages. Investigators examined whether the devices were associated with the same individual suspected of attacks in Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. No Russian involvement was established.
